Our ‘High & Dry' laundry drying rack is inspired by the original model made by my Great-Great-Grandfather in 1922.

 

Back then, drying the washing in the wet Catlins weather for the family of 17 was proving a challenge. The solution was a 3 metre long drying frame hoisted above the indoor fireplace.

 

It was built in a day between the morning and evening milking of the farm cows. The original frame is still in use today in the old farmstead in the Tahakopa Valley in the Catlins.

Today, our modern ‘High & Dry’ laundry drying racks are designed in Wanaka and manufactured in New Zealand from UV lacquered American White Oak Veneer on Birch

Plywood. Pulleys, rope, clothing line and screws are all supplied upon purchase.

Up to 3 ‘High & Dry’ laundry drying racks can be joined together. Dimensions per frame: 1.1m x 297mm

I was inspired to create a modern version of the original drying frame, which has been such an incredible part of our family history. I wanted to honour this history and create

opportunities for local collaboration in my community of Wanaka and Otago.
